Maroubra & Bronte Beach revisit + Tamarama Beach siren photos.

Tue Oct 26, 2021 5:06 am

Lightningfun64 and I took a visit to Maroubra, Bronte and Tamarama Beach NSW. I came back the second time with a friend to take better pictures of Maroubra and Bronte's sirens. I used a camera this time instead of using my phone all the time. When we went to Maroubra we got a good opportunity be able to enter the building and see the first siren on the council building up close! We also had the mindless decision to ask if they test the siren, but they do not test it when beaches get dense populations. When beaches get crowded it can cause lots of scares when its not a real emergency but I guess well have to come back when its not so crowded! ;) But hey we at least got to see the siren up close! Thanks lifeguards! Unfortunately we weren't allowed to go up close to the wall mounted 999 over at the volunteer lifeguards building because they do not allow personnel to pass the a certain point of the building, it is a Lifeguard and volunteer lifeguard only area. We noticed that Grifco 999s are on 10/12 ports and are very similar to a Carter or castle castings sirens. We saw that the motor had some name on it called Teco, we did quick research and found out Teco provided a motor for the Grifco 999 model which is still in production. To be exact it uses a Teco MAX-E2 415V. After Maroubra we headed to Bronte, we thought it still had the Grifco 663/777 that we saw on google maps that used to sit at the lifeguards club, but we were wrong. It was replaced by a Klaxon SO4 which was distributed by "Sirens & Horns" (You'll see it has the sticker on the siren as well). We also noticed the little "concrete dimples" on the wall and around the siren. We believe thats where the 663/777 exactly sat and were not sure if Bronte still has it lying around somewhere. Both old and new sirens were wall mounted and is not too high up from us (we could even touch it!) id say 6-8 feet above ground. After that we stopped at Tamarama Beach and noticed TWO sirens. Seeing a Klaxon SO4 led us to believe that the older siren a Klaxon Mono 72 is now inactive and has been replaced by the SO4 since. We are hoping that we can try and obtain one of those sirens, Bronte's 663/777 is our jackpot. Other than that most sirens are ACTIVE and are still in service, as I said earlier they do not test for reasons mentioned above. Other than that we had a blast! Our photos will be seen below. Also my camera doesnt have enough zoom since im using a lighter lens.

With that being said Enjoy!

EDIT: Photos are not uploading for some reason so ill be posting photos the old fashioned way.
