Oklahoma City Whelen WPS-2810 malfunction - 9/6/18

Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:41 pm

I'll start from the beginning. On Thursday, September 6th, I got a message from a friend asking if sirens in OKC were going off. I went outside and heard at least one.. first thing I did was check for cell alerts, which there was none. I then changed it to News 9 due to the fact if there was any good reason for the sirens sounding, the event would be covered on News 9, nothing. I then realized something was happening with the siren. I left one of my phones for an ambiance when I went to the siren. Unfortunately that ambiance audio, which was the only instance I heard where the siren actually wound down nd back up, was lost, save for the 20 seconds of audio in the beginning. After I got to the siren, I just held my camera up and recorded for around 12 minutes, and my ears started to get tired. I went home and got my phone and started driving around to another sirens. Those sirens were not going off so about 30 minutse later I arrived back at the offending siren, but it was shut down by then, and the last news vehicle was leaving. This malfunction was most likely caused by the insanely high humidity caused by hurricane Gordon getting in to the siren controller and affecting the membrane keypad, same with the Yukon malfunction a couple days later Unfortunately, this seems to be a Whelen specific issue. The day before this, a Thunderbolt in Moore was most likely struck by lightning, and went off for a couple rounds of a wail signal. On Saturday around 5pm, a WPS-2910 in Yukon went off in a broken hi-lo. In all, the 2810 in this video went for about an hour of straight alert!

I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.
