Whelen Engineering: Vortex Alert - Jamestown, Indiana

Much louder than I had anticipated. Just one of the 3 vortexes in this less than 1sq/mi town. More info in the description.

R4's are no joke. They have no issue getting the job done, and are quite competitive with the loudest ACA and Federal sirens.

That and I'm not quite used to the immediate full volume 129db of these sirens. Surprised I didn't knock my camera over!

Huh, all the Whelens I’ve heard (including R4’s on 560hz tone set) have been extremely quiet.

There’s no question they carry far though. They can be heard loud and clear from several miles away and easily cut through background noise. We used to have a Whelen 2809 not to far from me in the next city over, and it could be heard clearly from my house about 4 miles away. Their system ran (and still uses) the wail Signal on both of their 2001-130’s and 2 T-128’s. It was replaced by a solar-powered 2001-130 in June 2016 at the same location, and the -130 can’t be heard at all from my house.
