Happy SWA!!! This was my first time recording a 14V-B. I wasn't really blown away by the SPL. These don't have the bite of a 16V but are louder than a 7V8-B. It fills the gap between those sirens pretty well. Man do these carry though, and that is really where Sentry's sirens shine. After the test, the 14V-B in Benevolence can be heard from eight miles away. I do think a 16V or the Vortex-R4 this siren replaced would have fit this town a bit better for the extra range, but 14V should cover it fairly well. Randolph County has seven 14V-Bs installed in 2019 to replace the Whelen in Cuthbert and a Darley Model 7 in Shellman and test on the first Wednesday of the month at noon. The Whelen in Cuthbert is controlled by the police department and used as a backup to my understanding.
This day was kind of jacked up. I planned on placing recorders in Chattahoochee and Stewart Counties along with one in my window in Columbus. With the drill happing at 9 AM I was running low on time, so I didn't place the recorders and jetted down the highway to Cuthbert. 9 rolls around and the siren's all no worky-worky, so I call the EMA to see what's up. Come to find out they were sounding them at noon. I confirmed with the other counties that they were sounding their systems off for a mock warning, and to make matters worse both systems run attack/wail. I missed out on some GOOD potential footage and a chance to hear a 16V on the same day to have a direct comparison to the 14V. Not to mention my Canon SX540 HS's mic giving out and the shot drifting off target. Thankfully I used my old trusted SX510 HS as a backup, and it came in handy to fill in for the trashed audio and footage.
