Re: Siren photos from the Oregon and northern California coast (large photos!)

I don't remember seeing this thread when it was first posted, cool. The west coast certainly has it's fair share of interesting sirens. I agree that the paint can siren is not an HOR. I only know of like three different HOR models (though each one has several variations), and none of them are anything like that.

I'm sure you can easily hear a Model A in a car from far away. It's not much different from a firetruck siren, which you can definitely hear from inside a car without a problem.

well
if I can hear my L when its outside from inside through 1 inch of wood and glass, i would assume that you can hear an A through a thin layer of glass. (THinner...)

Daniel, if you ever make it into the town of Brownsville OR, be sure to check out the siren on top of city hall there. It's a model 3 or 5t. and is somewhat famous. It's the siren that was used in Irwin Allens "Flood" movie back in 1976. I can't help but wonder if the original Dual knob controls are still in place! you know the ones Martin milner pried off with a crowbar lol!! maybe you could find out. It's on my bucket list to do but I have no reason to travel up through Oregon yet...

I'm pretty sure that STL-10 at Moolack Beach came from San Onofres old system that was replaced by Whelen 2806s and 2810s in November 2005. The 2806s sit in place of the STL-10s as you can see the small square mounting plate which is not a Whelen mounting plate. And the 2810s sat in place of the Model 120s since they have a large circle plate with 8 bolt holes where the frame from the 120s used to attach to. I highly doubt any 120s went up to Oregon ,but they definitely have the STL-10s from the old system. Apparently they have 23 they got from SONGS ,but SONGS had 29 STL-10s ,so the remaining 6 might've went where ever the 120s went.

No 120's here that we know of. However the STL's are almost definitely from SONGS.
Im going down to medford next week so hopefully I can see some of the sirens there.
Going to brookings later this year too.

It’s supposed to be warm there next week too 😉 brookings is also pretty nice weathered but last I checked I didn’t think they had any sirens... but Medford I think has some near it for a dam warning. Too bad none are near the highway.

I wonder if the pistol river, on the ground pistol river (there is literally one on a pole and one on the ground as you can see from the pic... anyone know anything about that???) Moolack, Lincoln city and old Lincoln city one (in the basement of the Otis fire station) came from there 🤔 I also discovered a low in a town just outside of hood river.

Back from medford. Didnt end up going to ashland, however I saw a red and black STH-10 on the way home. they put a hat of sorts over the motor. Brookings IIRC has a model 2 and a 2001. unless thats slightly out of brookings. IDK
I actually might be able to go to pistol river as it doesn't appear to be far from brookings.
