Weekend trip to Helen, GA

Mon Apr 20, 2015 4:25 pm

Fiance and I decided to go to Helen for the night this past Saturday. For those of you who do not know, Helen is a small Alpine themed village in White County, GA, at the start of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some of the most beautiful scenery just about an hour and a half north of where we live. Much to my surprise, with Helen being a mountain village, there are tornado sirens present. I thought they were flood sirens at first, until further Google research lead to a PDF file discussing White County's tornado siren system. Didn't figure there'd be one in the North GA mountains. I took pics of the sirens but will have to post Streetview for now, phone isn't wanting to cooperate...

Mt. Yonah Elementary School, outside of Helen:

Downtown Helen, GA at the City Hall:

Outskirts of town, on a side road:

That's all I saw directly in and around Helen, so if anyone knows of any other locations feel free to post or add please. I didn't have much time to actually look all that well as the weather was pretty crappy all weekend but we still had a good time.

Also got to stop and see the Master Blaster in Dahlonega, but saw no other sirens, not even at the UNG campus. This is at the Lumpkin County Fire Department:
