Rockwall P-50 and P-10 To Be Retired This Month

Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:59 pm

After a failure of Rockwall’s Penetrator 50 style siren, we decided to call Rockwall to see what was up. Turns out, the Penetrators had been disconnected, and are slated to be replaced later this month (July 2019). It sure is sad to see these brutes go, but it must be done in order to better warn the public.

On a side note, the Penetrator off of IH-30 and Vigor remains in place, and should serve the city for many years to come.

To be fair the original units for that system are about 40 years old. Upgrades aren't always a bad thing, though it sucks the P-50 isn't working anymore. At least one of the Alertroncis are starting to sound bad as well.

Always sad to see historic units go. Do you know what they're replacing them with? Personally I would go with Sentry in a heartbeat but FS seems to be more common currently.

Also, unrelated - Love your signature, Whammy! I'm in college marching band and a community symphonic band on alto sax.

Replacements will more than likely be T-128 series, though they might put in the "new" T-135 series where the old one was. All of their expansion lately has been -128's, and I don't see them changing that anytime soon.

Quick correction/addition here, since the OP must’ve missed this when I said it irl.
The P-10 at Reindhart is the only one set to be replaced this month. The 50’s replacement is on order from ASC though and should arrive in the next 90-120 days.
The Alertronic off 740 is currently down, and the chief mentioned something about the panel being off at ASC for some sort of retrofit.

Sad to hear but it was inevitable. They have a nice system of ASC Tempest's now.

I will let y'all know when the replacement goes up. I Live on the north side of Rockwall and am through there every couple of days. I can take some pics as well. Would be neat to grab that old -50 when they take it down, but I have no idea where I would put it.

Has anyone contacted Rockwall EMS to see what they're planning to do with the removed sirens?

No but I am thinking that the P-50's main motor is dead. It seems like it is turning for tests, but I haven't heard it in months. ...so trash can is where that really needs to go. I don't know about the p-10.

40 years of intense vibrations really do things to motors.
