1993 ACA Sound Testing Photos

Fri Nov 22, 2019 6:07 am

I've been doing some more ACA/ASC research, and recently obtained these 1993 ACA sound testing photos from a friend. Needless to say, when I saw these my jaw dropped. The Alertronic fan in me just about lost it, and I knew I had to share these with you all. The photos depict various sirens undergoing sound testing at ACA's Mequon, Wisconsin facility in 1993. Sirens tested include the Performance Plus-Omni, the Alertronic 4000, the T-128, and most notably the Quadren. These tests were carried out to determine whether or not Hörmann wanted to purchase the company from B&N. Ultimately they did, forming American Signal Corporation, and from what I've gathered they decided against implementing the Tempest and Quadren into their product line. It is my thinking that Jim and Dale took these designs with them to Excel Alerting Communicators, later reintroducing them to ASC when Dale bought the company back. As a side note, you can see various other items in the backrounds of many of these photographs, including a Thunderbeam, the Cyclone, some fiberglass moulds, and what could even be part of an Alertronic 5000! With that said, enjoy:

I'm speechless. This might be the most monumental post on these forums in years and really changes some fundamental understandings about ACA.

This is truly remarkable and I really am out of superlatives for this thread and your work. Just amazing.

That Cyclone can be seen on Street View from 2007, or whatever remained of it.

All that's left now is to find the manual for some of these sirens!

So that must be the very first T-128 built in a barn? I had no idea that it was built this early before mass production began.

I remember when the current "T112" was called the "T121" long before it had horns, and advertised that way on their website. Then one day, the T121 suddenly had horns, and the hornless version, what was once the T121, was then called the T112. It was strange.

Oh gosh I thought I was the only one who remembered that! Probably just an error. Still.
