To cut to the chase, it's just dumb to ever mount any siren below 30 feet to ground level. For one, as mentioned, why piss people off with a siren in "their face" as they walk by so to speak...But most importantly, The sirens full potential is wasted! For maximum performance and coverage a siren should be up at least 60 feet, clearing of all obstruction's, tree's, buildings etc.. Otherwise most of the sound output is being blocked or just thrown into the ground.... The higher your siren, the better sound coverage over a larger area........ i'ts 3rd grade common sense!!!!

This isn't in the U.S., but it's one of the lowest I've ever seen.

That siren in Nice, France is atop a hill.
Sadly, it probably announced air raids in WWII.
The foliage appears not old enough to be from that time, so it was probably unobstructed then.
Interesting to see the ornate street light pole.

This is on top of the Parc du Ch?teau in Nice, France. It's over a thousand feet up on a hill. Besides, it's been posted here before.

I'm glad for such reposts.
Otherwise I would not have seen and learned of this.

1000 feet?
Now that is really high!

Are these sirens louder/watt because of their much longer more gently flaring projector cones?

Guess that will be my next project: dB/watt and dB/pound

The angled cones were an attempt to create a more efficient siren - look at the Banshee series of sirens; they have angled walls around the stator.

Don't see why it wouldn't be. It doesn't look much different than a siren in my town.
