In what exact year did the SiraTone series of the EOWS* Series first came out?

Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:44 pm

In my opinion, I believe the first batch of the SiraTone series sirens---the EOWS* 115 (to be exact) first came out the exact year the Zimmer Nuclear Power Plant in Ohio first received the first prototypes of the 115---was first released in the year of 1982. I know some will say 1981, 1982, or even 1983 before the later SiraTone EOWS* 1212 and 612. But, from my perspective the prototypes of the EOWS* 115 was in prototype production stage I believe in circa. (1980-1981) as the 1212 before two years the first batch was given to the plant. Do you all believe my philosophy on the SiraTone series to be truly correct or the search of the exact production year is still a mystery yet to be solved...? I know for a fact that according to the USPTO, it mentions the patent application for the EOWS* series was filed by the Federal Signal Corporation on July 12, 1982 and the application status has expired as of April 19 of 2020. What do you all think of this? Comment down below.

Thank you.

I don't know my years and such, but if I recall, those Zimmer EOWS's are actually prototype 1212's, not 115's.

They cane out in the early 1980s. I will say about 1982.
I still post here, but not as much as I used to.

Thank you.
I’ve done continuous research on this for ages now. The first SiraTones were sent to Zimmer in early 1982. These are supposedly called 1212s, however the name is starting to make less and less sense, but I’ll hold all judgements until documents on them are revealed.

The next place to get them in mid to late 82 was Pilgrim Nuclear over in Massachusetts. They had a system of 91 sirens consisting of preproduction 408s, 115s and even 1 or 2 1212s(round horn 1212s). Around this time was when Federal filed their patent on the SiraTone. What’s noteworthy about the patent and Pilgrim is that they both only featured 408s, 115s and 1212s.

A few months later, Federal finally released the series to the open market in early 83, featuring the 115, 408 and new 812. The 1212 disappeared for a bit before it came back with the introduction of the 612 in 84. The 408 and 812 was replaced by this new compact array. They sold the 115, 1212 and 612 from 84 to around 88 or 89, then they dropped the 115 entirely. The 1212 was replaced by the Mod in 1990 and the 612 and Mod sold alongside each other until 2007, when Federal’s supplier for the speaker projectors went bankrupt.

That’s my rudimentary summary of the whole thing.

Here’s an image of a Zimmer control module, with a date code of 8214 at the latest. This is the 14th week of 82.

I believe it was 1981 when the first EOWS was installed. It was located at the Zimmer Nuclear Power Plant in Washington Township, Clermont County Ohio.

What are the differences between a 115 and a 1212?

The 115 and 1212 for production models are differentiated by their horns. 115 uses Atlas Sound CJ-46 horns and 1212 used an unknown model 26" University Sound aluminum horns.
The Zimmer prototypes are supposedly 1212s, but documentation on them hasn't been shared yet, so it's speculation as of right now until further notice.
