3t22A refurbishment help.

Sun Nov 29, 2020 6:53 pm

Hello, I and my friend recently bought a 3t22A. It did not come with control boxes and my friend is getting an ar timer for Xmas, we know that you need an AF timer but will an AR timer work?. Also, we don't have an rcx so if anybody knows where you can get one for a decent price please let me know.

An Ar Timer will not drive the shutters but will drive the Motor (alert & attack). you need an AF for pulse and Hi-low.

Keep in mind you need a large motor starter in between the controller and siren. (as well as a fuse) You can get good quality motor starters from most HVAC suppliers since AC compressors chug power (and are also usually three phase).

Saw this on eBay. Federal Signal RC6 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/164527791851
includes motor contactor and solenoid flasher.

I forgot the RC6 existed. In short your controller will work but only for alert and attack. The ebay one and AF are needed for anything more.

I've seen some people use traffic light sequencers to controll sirens. Perhaps you could use one to control the shutters.

An AR timer will work perfectly fine to control the siren. You'll need to get ahold of a motor contactor that matches the specs of the motor and that should be the bare basics to get it running after wiring up your control system. If you want to take it one step further, you can get your hands on a flasher to control the dampers and wire it into one of the signals on the AR. They should be relatively easy to find as they're commonly found in traffic light control systems, including the ones Federal used for the RCM3 and RC6.

Also take note that your unit is 3 phase, requiring 3 phase power service or a generator. You can't run it on single phase service.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
