8 Port model five Questions

Wed Dec 02, 2020 1:14 am

Hi I was wondering what the difference is between a 8 port model five and a regular model five. Is there a wiring difference or was it made the way it is in a factory. Also could I wire my model model 5 to be an 8 port too?

You'd need to replace the rotor and stator to make it an 8 port. Federal used off the shelf motors for their sirens so they should be the same. I'd try and trade your siren for an 8 port since it would be easier than hunting down parts. Is yours the dual tone 8/10 like an SD10 or is there a port ratio I'm forgetting?

SD-10s are 9/12 port. Federal never made any 8/10 port sirens. The closest thing they've made is the Model 2T and Thunderbolt 1000T which were made in 4/5 port at some points.
I have an unhealthy obsession with mini sirens.

You're right, but what are the 5 port dual tones? Do they share the same as the SD10's?

The literal only difference is the amount of ports. Everything else is basically the same. You cannot "wire" a siren to be a different amount of ports. You have to replace the stator and/or chopper.
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

Sorry, I meant port ratio of a dual tone model 5. Not a 5 port siren.

But yeah you can't wire a siren to have different port ratios you're gonna be looking for either an 8 port rotor and stator, and at that point you should trade your dual tone (I'm guessing 9/12) model 5 for a single tone one.

Just look up "federal signal model 5t". They're very obviously 9/12.

IIRC Fedelcode Model 5 choppers are not interchangeable with standard Model 5s.
