Pictures of San Francisco's sirens and a half-test video

Sat Jul 26, 2008 8:56 pm

So I just returned from a trip to San Francisco. I now present (though everyone seems to hate it) much of the San Francisco ATI system, and a little something else...

A video of about half the weekly test. Only half because I had no idea it was coming. For some reason, I didn't hear the voice announcement section. I apologize for how loud my voice is in this. And yes, I was on a walking tour with a bunch of adults, in case you're wondering who all those random people are...

So here's a building in Fort Mason. But wait, what's that on the roof?!

It's a Model 5!

Another building in Fort Mason, right on the water...

With ATI's on top. Oh well...

I also saw sirens in other places (on top of a large white building downtown, and near the Fog City Diner), and what looked like an empty Chrysler platform.
I left this board in early 2010. I am not a part of the siren community in any sense anymore. I will not provide assistance or information.

Is that a Thunderbolt behind those ATIs in the first picture?

Holy crap! I didn't notice that at all! Somebody work on obtaining that one if possible!

Boy you gotta sharp eye, I would have never noticed that. Must have the rotator disabled.

I don't see how they could get it down without removing the ATI, even though I would like to push it down onto the street.

Is that first Picture from SF? I thought they had a system of STL-10s?

They were all replaced with ATI's, i'm afraid. They play a sound clip of one of the old STL's.
Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me......

Keyword=had. Grr.

That's got to be a thunderbolt, must be their backup siren.
Oh, and ugh, that recording of an STL-10 is so sickly I almost caught the flu just listening to it.

I know that, but I thought their old system consisted of only STL-10s.

Great pics! In some of those pics, the ATI's almost look as though you can swivel them at their base! Can you imagine a big burst of wind pushing all the "speakers" up towards the sky. Totally crap quality!
