Dayton, Ohio area sirens

Fri Feb 11, 2011 7:33 pm

With the classic sirens in Cincinnati being replaced over the coming year, and also because I keep finding myself in the Dayton area, I thought it would be fun to make a list of all known sirens in the Dayton, Ohio area (Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties - basically anything considered to be in the "Greater Dayton" area).

Here is a list of sirens I already know about (some I've seen, some I found via a virtual siren hunt in 2009)...

Greene County
Cedarville - 2001 next to the fire department
Kettering - ASC P-10/P-15 behind the fire department at 2700 Patterson Road
Xenia - scattered 2001s (locations unknown)

Montgomery County
Beavercreek - TBolt at Rotary Park (2260 Dayton-Xenia Road)
Dayton - SD-10 on East End Community School (401 Nassau Street)
Englewood - Gray 2001 (Roundback?) behind the fire department (330 West National Road)
Germantown - Sentry next to the municipal complex, 75 Walnut Street
Miamisburg - Sentry (unknown model) on the fire station (1st and Ferry)
Moraine - T-Bolt and T-128 off I-75 (Dryden Road exit); 3t22 in the 3300 block of Pinnacle Avenue
New Lebanon - 2001 next to the fire station (115 South Clayton Road)
Oakwood - T-128 behind the municipal complex (75 Walnut Street)

That "Sentry" in Miamisburg is actually an STH-10

A 2001 in Englewood? I thought all they had were 3 Werden P-127s.

I think any sirens located within the Dayton city limits are no longer used, I saw something from 2002 that they were going to stop using them by the end of 2003.

Here's some more sirens in the area:
West Carrolton: 2001-130 at the high school
Moraine: T-128 on Dryden Rd. next to Eniting Water Conditioning, Model 5 next to Moraine City Baptist Church
Vandalia: 3 2001-130s, I forget the locations
Miamisburg: 2T22 near one of the exits off I-75
Harrison Twp: STH-10 on top of fire station
Washington Twp: At least one Thunderbolt 1000T(unknown location)
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

I purchased 5 sirens off of Montgomery county, I'm not sure where they where originally located. There was an SD-10, 2 ACA Screamer (S10's), a Sentry 10V, and a Sentry 10V2T

Thanks. In an older post of mine (the one where I mentioned what I found on my virtual siren hunt a few years ago), someone said that Miamisburg had Sentrys, so I was assuming that's what it was.

That could very well be what it is. It's difficult to tell from the satellite view and I've never been up there to verify it. At the time, I wasn't familiar with the P-127, so I assumed it was an old roundback 2001. One of these days I'll get up there to check it out.

I already mentioned the T-128 and the STH-10 :P

I thought I had West Carrolton on the list, but I somehow left that off.

There's also a Thunderbeam in West Carrolton on the fire station at 1700 South Alex Road. I'll post a picture of it in the coming days (need to sort through all the photos I took at the Air Force museum first).

I think you were talking about the T-128 on Springboro Rd. near the Thunderbolt, I was talking about one that's further south. And I don't think I see the Harrison Twp. STH-10 in your list.

I didn't realize there were two T-128s in Moraine. The STH-10 was originally on the list but must have gotten dropped when I was re-organizing it prior to posting.

I know there is/was an ACA P-series around the Stanley Ave,/Kuntz Rd./Air City Ave intersection, but I can't find it on Google Maps. We went to that area when the Goodwill Outlet store was on Kuntz.

And there's also a siren on I-70 in the Englewood area. Saw it this summer but I've been up and down I-70 several times (?virtually?, via Google Street View) and can't find it. Pretty sure it was on the westbound side.
My sister lives in Huber Heights, which as I mentioned in the past has no system!

West Carrollton had a Thunderbeam at the High School but blew over during Hurican Ike and was replaced by a 2001. They also have a Thunderbeam near the old Fire Station #1 which is on Central, east of Elm Street. A 2T on Ironwood at Blanche and a 2T on Lake Forest east of Skyview.

Miamisburg just had all of their Sentrys replaced by 2001s.

Washington Township had (13) 1000ts. Half of them have been replaced ny 2001s.

Miami Township became part od the county warning system and have had 2001s placed at the following locations:Lowe's on Springboro Pike, Springboro Pike at Waldrew Park (north of Austin) and on Union Road south of Lower Miamisburg Road.
