White Rock tsunami sirens?

Tue Mar 09, 2021 5:51 am

Hi, I am just posting this because I have been trying to hunt down as many sirens as possible in my home province of BC. While digging, I found out that White Rock, or the surrounding area may have a tsunami siren system. However, I have not been able to find any photographs of it, let alone, the location. Any help with locating these seemingly non-existent sirens, and maybe any more sirens in the lower mainland is greatly appreciated. :D

I found (what I think is) a Model 2 in this little cupola thing but I doubt it's a tsunami siren.

Nearby Blaine has this thing:https://www.google.com/maps/@48.9940099 ... 384!8i8192
But Blaine is on the other side of the U.S. border so may be out of interest for you.
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

I wasn't able to locate anything for White Rock however I found other British Columbia sirens such as this Modulator on Cox Bay Beach

https://www.google.com/maps/@49.1004058 ... 704!8i4352

(It looks like a white blob on satellite imagery)

Location : Image Attached Below!

I also found another Modulator at Chesterman Beach

https://www.google.com/maps/@49.1221537 ... 376!8i2688

(You can see this one on satellite view! It shows as a pole with a blob on top.)

Location : Osprey Beach House, Near Chesterman Parking lot. Alongside the beach.

EDIT : I Forgot about this article! https://www.cowichanvalleycitizen.com/n ... in-tofino/ , this should be semi-useful in a way.

None of those are anywhere near White Rock
It takes 5 hours to get from Tofino to White Rock.
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtG1n8Hw4Ds This one is somewhere in Vancouver, could be White Rock. Sounds like an ECN to me, but I'm not that good at identifying electronic sirens. As far as other sirens in the lower mainland, there's a Mobil Directo at Victoria Park in Vancouver, and an active model 5/7 used as an alarm at the Cargill Grain Terminal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFoBREw4A4Q https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.3061919, ... 384!8i8192 The Hydroelectric dams in BC all have sirens too, the one in my town has Model 2s, not sure about other ones.
