Fire alarm system question.

Sat Dec 13, 2014 6:23 am

In a system do the fire alarms and smoke detectors have to be wired to the panel one by one or do they get wired in a loop (Like connecting 2 wires to the first positive end, one of them going to the panel and the second one going to the other alarm then bringing that same deal back to the panel on the negative end?)
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

Uhhh... Okay let me try to ask this a bit more visually: The equals sign are 2 wires (Positive and negative) =. The zero is the panel O.
The plus signs are fire alarms +. Are the alarms connected like this:
O=+=+=+ Where the electricity starts at the panel and travels through multiple alarms all connected to the same spot on the panel?
Or like this:

=+
O =+ Where each alarm is connected to a separate relay?
=+

This picture sort of explains it. I'm not sure about smokes, but the green box and circle on the bottom represent a pull station and heat detector. End of line resistors are required at the end of every circuit to verify that the devices are there. Of course, this is basic, but you could go even deeper into addressable systems.

In other words, are they wired in series or in parallel to the panel?
The answer varies with every system. Smoke detectors need a power supply, unlike basic pull stations, and depending on the trouble circuit, they can be wired many ways.
