Mars siren aquired

Sat Dec 27, 2014 6:44 pm

Picked this up yesterday off of Craigslist as a Christmas present to myself. It is a 12 volt Mars siren with a clutch and brake. I bought it in Scofield Wisconsin, about an hour and a half each way away from my house, it runs great! I disassembled it and cleaned it up and removed the power cable for display purposes.

Looks like a cool siren! It strikes a strong resemblance to the B&M Super Chief.

Yeah when I removed the rear cone it looks just like a siro-drift. With the cone on it looks like a small superchief. It also says Mars Model G, but says made by B & M.

It sounds just like mine except with a longer wind down. That thing is cool looking.

Thanks! Looks like a jet engine, and the neighbors said they could hear it inside their house when I set it off in the garage with the door closed and a torpedo heater running. This thing is insanely loud.

Called B&M, after finding out that the motor serial number corresponds to the housing serial number that means the siren is 100% original! Because of this and after finding those 2 numbers they found out that my siren left their factory along with a shipment of 9 others just like it on October 19th 1953! They were sold to Mars and that was as far as they could trace it. It is actually called a Mars G S, the S stands for streamlined. Pretty cool!
