Information requested on old buzzer

Sat Jan 10, 2015 10:28 pm

So I have a couple of these old horns from a demolition/building gutting job I'm doing, and I am wondering what brand/model number these are as well as its operating voltage. Around the coil frame are the numbers "720087" as well as "12-60~". There is a worn stamp on the back and the only word I can make out is signal.

That's a Simplex 4037-1. I have a 12 volt version

I suspect yours is also a 12 volt version (60~= 60 hz, 12 is most likely voltage), and you'll need a 12 volt AC transformer which like an Edwards 596 6-18 VAC transformer which is what I used to power my horn (it will not run on 12 volt DC, it'll just click as you apply and remove power).

Hope this helps

Those were made in the 50's and 60's for fire alarm systems.

Thank you 3t22, I kind of had a sneaking suspicion it was a 12 VAC coil, @Daniel, these were the original fire horns in the building I'm working on. A lot of these were still in place for aesthetic reasons.
