Questions on Mechanical Railroad Crossing Bells

Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:43 pm

I love mechanical crossing bells (I’m probably more of a crossing bell fan than a railfan), and was wondering if you think they should ring the whole time the gates are down, only while the gates are coming down, or while the gates are coming down and then again when they’re going up? Personally I think the last is the best. And which speed do you think they should ring at? I like the faster speed better, but I’ve heard that they should ring faster at busier crossings and slower at rural ones.

I think they should ring at 120BPM, ringing the entire time.
