Ghostbusters Siren

Tue Aug 29, 2006 3:13 pm

I have always wondered what in the world is the siren on the Ghostbusters car. It sounds much like a dying cat. Is this an actual siren or is it just simulated?

(I gotta say, the car in Ghostbusters 2 would be my dream car!!)
Here are some pics to jog your memory:

And yes, I'm back (for all you veterans out there).

I have to agree. Nice car. Those guys sure knew lighting! And that siren! In the movie the car was an old ambulance. I'd hate to hear that comming for me!
Q2B or not 2B that is the question.

I believe that the Ghostbusters siren sound was synthesized and not from any actual type of siren.

What I want to get is something that sounds like those alarm horns heard in the Star Wars movies, the ones that sound something like a cross between a klaxon, a diaphone, a crying baby, and a muffled fart.

D***. Well, I was gonna get the siren for my bike (it's a private school and they don't care about stuff on bikes... I recently ordered the whole set of police bicycle lights in green as this is the campus security color). Of course, I could always get a Q-Siren ^.^

There are some ghostbuster sound clips on this site. The first set is the proton pack and the second set should be the Ectomobil siren. Number three on the second set has the wind up.

Unfortunately the stupid dorm room internet connection here doesn't allow the manual download of MP3s... can someone host the Ecto sounds (in a zip file or separately) on RapidShare.de? This is one of the few sites that download correctly...

You mean this sound, from the original [read: real] Star Trek?

Dammit, Jim! I mean Star Wars, not Star Trek -- I already have Roddenberry's whooping alert siren somewhere among my sound files. In the various and poorly-written Star Wars movies, a type of siren sound was used in Imperial vessels, especially in docking bays. They came in high pitch and low pitch versions, and sounded something like a muffled, motor-driven Klaxon hooter. They could possibly be mistaken for a large cat or sheep, were it not for their regular repeating. If you have ever heard the recording of that huge (non-diaphone) foghorn in Scotland, it sounds something like that. A quick rise to a high note, a slight fall, and then no sound. Something like a low-pitched steam siren, only with more fall tone.
