ACA Hurricane 130 siren

Wed Jun 17, 2015 12:09 am

I know that Baxter Minnesota had an ACA Hurricane 130 siren that has been removed. I am wondering if it is in a junk yard somewhere. Does anyone know where this rare siren might have gone? I would love to get this siren if possible.

It almost certainly was scrapped, if it even did exist. No one was able to find it, either active or on the ground. Luke(crazywarriorman) has one for sale, likely the last one in existence. That's your best bet. Sorry for the negativity. :update: Siren is not for sale anymore.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

I remember two square-horned Hurricanes in Minnetonka. Both were there until about 1995. One was located right off I-494 on the east side, about halfway between Minnetonka Blvd and I-394. The other was located right off Excelsior Blvd and County Road 101. The second one I tape recorded in 1989, using a boombox and cassette tape. I wish I had kept these recorded gems.

Interesting! Do you remember what port ratio they were?

The same as all the others, as I remember seeing that there weren't any orders for any other port ratio than 8/10.

While there is a possibility that it was a Hurricane, it was probably just a Thunderbolt. There are quite a few thunderbolts in that area (at least 2 1003's that I know of and a 1000t)

A while back I found a topic with more information about the location of the siren, if you are interested here it is.

I had a sneaking suspicion that the Hurricane 130 was replaced by a 2001-130. I now know where it was. I pass by it quite a lot. It's across the highway from one of the best Holiday Inn Express's I've ever been to.

I only heard one of the two, and I'm guessing it was an 8/10 after watching videos of 8/10 Hurricanes and comparing them to my memory - which, by the way, has faded a bit in the 28 years since I recorded the siren.

I hate to bump this old thread, but a little while ago someone found a 2007 satellite image of the area where the Hurricane apparently was. It's a little pixelated, but you can make out what appears to be a siren with a blower-mounted pole pointing southeast. This picture was found on the Crow Wing county GIS site. The 2007 layer doesn't appear to be an option for viewing anymore, but fortunately someone did get this screenshot.

Also, the location of the siren would have been near Inglewood Dr and Fairview Rd.

I have been thinking of trying to track down what happened to it after it was removed. I know it's a long shot since it's been 13 years since it was removed, but I'm not going to dismiss the possibility that it's been sitting in a warehouse or city lot somewhere since it was removed, especially since it was in a smaller city and there are only so many places it could have gone (unless it was taken to a scrapyard farther away). I do know which company that did the replacement, and from what I have heard they didn't keep any records. If anything I just need to find out what they would have most likely done with it after it was removed, or where it was sent to.
