Siren Help

Mon Sep 17, 2018 2:05 pm

Hi
i was given this siren because the guy said it was not working.
when i applied 12v power it spun very slow.
the motor seems loose and its brushed.
when i put 120V to it its fast an loud.
guy said it was working on a 12v system in a car so unless they had a converter im not sure how it was working.
i have seen some ademco sirens that have a silver box with wires coming from it would this be a converter or a capacitor?
want to install it on my 66 olds 98
thanks

Greetings and welcome to TSB!

Have you tried running it at 24V and see if it spins a little bit faster?

Also these small boxes attached on these "igloo-shaped" Ademco sirens are most likely junction boxes.

Those sirens are house alarm sirens. I had one mounted in my truck with the alarm controller ran off a 120v adapter that plugged into a cigarette plug. Not meant to be run off of 12v alone.

Just a standard 12v to 120v inverter.
