I can usually hear train horns pretty good from where I am (A mile and a half) from CP trackage, but usually nothing more than 5 miles away from where I am.

Depends on the atmospheric conditions. I would put train horns at about a model 5. Maybe even a hair quieter.

It can. Again it depends on atmospheric conditions. I’ve heard train horns (especially low toned ones) from pretty far away. But it
Also depends on the siren.

On the defunct ShipHorns sister forum, I remember literature on there putting a K5LA at 115dB (cant rememeber if A or C scale) at 100 feet, so similar to an STH10

Train Horn Range

A couple of Facebook friends have reported a train going through Dover, and possibly as far as Exeter, last night around 10:30 with the horn blowing continuously. I didnt have the scanner on. Anyone know anything about this?

I can hear a train horn at my house from about 4 miles away, as long as it's clear and there's no wind.
Currently the owner of a small homemade siren called the CWS-110, and, a newly acquired STL-10A from Vinita, OK.
