Piece of fabric stuck in model 7 stator

Thu May 21, 2020 1:29 am

I've got this piece of fabric stuck in one of the ports of my model 7, and it is really jammed in there. I've tried tugging and pulling out but it just will not budge. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get it out? Thanks!

I have a few ideas:

Try unbolting the motor from the assembly and separating the rotor and stator.

If you can't do that, Try burning the fabric out with a lighter and some alcohol (more controlled burn than gas).

In high school someone ran over a moving blanket and part of the blanket was caught under their car. they burned it out and it worked then, as long as the metal isn't glowing cherry red you should be good.

If that fails, WD40 or mechanic-al, a WD40 clone that smells like maple syrup.

If the ports are still open get a piece of wood insert it into the opening and pry the rotor in the opposite direction the fabric was pulled in. The wood will not be damaging to the components. I used this method to free up some stiff motor bearings. If that was unsuccessful, my next step would be to burn it out. Ideally it would be best to soak it in a fuel and just burn the fabric. You could also heat the outside of the stator in that area but, that is a little more destructive as you would be burning the paint. Heat it just enough to start charring the fabric not to get the stator cherry red.
