Federal Electric Siren Type 12 - New Departure Bearings

Fri Nov 11, 2022 2:04 am

Hello,
I have a possibly 1930's era Type 12 Fed Electric. vehicle mount siren that I have opened up. I thought it might be easier than it is, finding replacements for the New Departure bearings in it. The bearings are ok but I figure what the heck, let's change them. Has anyone else had the same issue as me? I have only the numbers stamped on these bearings to work with, 8119 and 8103. I'm hoping these are a normal bearing that Federal used for many models of that era.

Those numbers are definitely hard to cross. If you are really determined to get replacements, I would take them physically out, get a calipers and record the dimensions. You can then use Timkens or skf's online catalog to determine what number they cross too.

To be honest though, if the the original bearings are just fine, I wouldn't change them. Those 1930's bearings are more than likely of high quality.
