Re: 2001-130 in Chicago

It seems that I have found another 2001-130 in Chicago. I was taking the Metra downtown when I spotted a new 130. This is new because I remember seeing the old SRN in its spot. The new siren is located by the intersection of N Avondale Ave and W Addison st.

Wow!! If you go into the alley, you can see the new pole installed next to the old siren in the August 2022 street view. Looks like Chicago is replacing quite a few sirens.

I have created a map to keep track of these replacements because I am now sure there are more. If anyone notices any new ones, please let me know!

Looks like my initial speculation might come true, at least partially in some form. ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

Yeah, Chicago's system is from the 90s. In fact, I think they're one of the few large cities still operating the Federal Signal MC Controller on their electronic sirens. It's only a matter of time before those 90s electronics start having issues.

This is total speculation, but I tend to believe they're probably going to do one at a time, when the opportunity presents. Say if one siren dies due to equipment failure or dead batteries, they may just go ahead and replace the entire thing. Etc, etc, until the entire system is upgraded. That's what Ardmore, Oklahoma did between 2013 and 2018. Their T-128 upgrade was a 3-step procedure, AFAIK.

2 more. Balmoral and Ravenswood on a new pole.

Kostner near Maypole. New pole next to old siren. So definitely replaced soon after google came through.
