Bicycle tire-driven sirens: still available/illegal?

Sat Aug 26, 2006 3:52 am

Are these still made anywhere?

As I child, I was told they were banned because
they could be mistaken for an ambulance.

You can easily find a plethora of these vintage “Pearson’s Majestic bicycle sirens” all over eBay, however they are often either overpriced or rusted out. Just search for those diamonds in the rough!

What are these "bicycle tire driven sirens?" I'm going to do research, but they sound very interesting.

These were basically noverty toys for children to mount onto a bicycle. The siren mounted by the front wheel on a support, and there was a long chain that was wrapped around the handlebar that attached to the siren. when you pull the chain, the siren swiveled into place and rubbed a nub against the tire, spinning it up and making a racket. It was basically the same concept as some of the early Hedberg vehicular sirens.
