My NE IL Siren Photos (Some Rare)

Thu Feb 03, 2011 3:25 am

Here is where I will start posting my siren photos. Be sure to check in for updates, whenever possible. All (unless specified) in Northeast Illinois.

Watseka, IL:
Their local volunteer fire department uses a 3T22 for fire calls, and the STH-10 for tornado warning.

Kankakee, IL:
Federal Signal 2001:DC roof mounted. Used for tornado warnings.

*RARE* Found by accident! Old siren mounted on top of a factory in Kankakee, I think it's a Decot, and I don't know if it's even in service or works. I spotted it as we were driving along a 25mph.

Let me know if anyone has any information on the rare siren. That's all for now, let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Joshua

Its definitely not a Darley, It could be one of those model 5 knockoffs, like a GCS Model 5.

GSC? I've never head of that company. I'm going to look it up. I might own one of their sirens.

Either way, knock-off or not, it's pretty cool for me.

Cheers,
Joshua

It's a Darley Model 3 or 5. I saw one of these up in Washington. Nice pics.

If you go out 17 on the west side of Kankakee, past where Court St. and Station St. meet, there's an STL10 on top of an old factory on the north side of the road. I would imagine this was part of Kankakee's old system.

EDIT:
Here's something else you may find interesting Joshua.

If you go down to the west end of Riverlane Dr. and look down to your left you can see some of Kankakee's old CD sirens sitting in their waterworks lot. It looks like 2 3T22s and a TBolt but there could be at least 1 other siren in there too.

Hmm...I was thinking the opposite: definately not a GCS, probably a Darley.

Those flat-top Darleys are everywhere in Oregon and Idaho.

I went railfanning with my friend today. His camera actually has 60x opitical zoom, so I borrowed it to get better pictures of the siren.

It does appear to be a Darley.
