Vintage siren photos thread

Sun Mar 01, 2015 2:06 pm

I searched for one, and found a very old one that had not been bumped in quite a while, so I decided to start a new thread for this. This, as the title implies are for vintage siren photographs.

I will start this with my contributions:

New Orleans, Louisiana, around 1964

Worker at a Darley factory from around 1949 I estimate'

Kennedy Space Center around 1966. The siren is next to the yellow windsock

Even though this is not technically a photgraph I feel it is worth a mention. Taken in Savannah, Georgia in 1993 or 1994, as seen in the movie Forrest Gump

DeKalb County, Georgia Ca. 1986 or 1987

And lastly, Springfield, Illinois, from around 1962.

25, unfortunately not dead yet.
1950 Model A, 1940s Darley Champion, 30 something ID tags, some other odds and ends
Registered Skywarn spotter as of 4/29/18

I'm quite surprised about the 2nd and 3rd picture of the two guys standing next to that Thunderbolt. Even though the photo is black and white, it appears as though that Thunderbolt was installed many years before the photo was taken because all the CD and Federal decals were faded out and the sheet metal appears to show rust starting in places.

Interesting, I didn't notice that, but you're right.

That mobile command post sure is cool.

I know there's an old ACA manual, and it features some pretty rare sirens, including the Allertronic 5000. (I think)
