Shot on March 11, 2015. This is a video of a 1940's W.S. Darley Model 3 sounding attack signal for the 2015 South Carolina Statewide Tornado Drill at 9:00 am. This siren was used for fire calls but in August 2012, the usage of this siren was changed because residents in Abbeville thought this siren was going off for a real warning and they didn't like listening to this siren sound off for fire calls.
But now it's used for tornado warnings, natural disasters, and man-made disasters. This siren was never tested. The last time this siren sounded was back in 2012. In February 2015, I emailed the town manager a suggestion about testing this siren for the 2015 SC tornado drill. He emailed me back and told me he forwarded my email to the fire chief. The fire chief emailed me back and he accepted my suggestion! He even let me press the "attack" button! Unfortunately, this test lasted a minute and the half. I thought it will sound for 3 minutes of attack. But I was wrong. The cancel button wasn't pressed, the attack signal was programmed to only sound this siren a minute and the half when this siren was back used for fire calls. This siren is located in downtown Abbeville, South Carolina at Abbeville Fire Rescue (and Abbeville Police Department) off of Main Street near Cherry Street.
