So 3 things to start off with: I used the search function so if I missed something where this was discussed before I do apologize. Also I wasn't sure weather to put this in the off topic forum or where but I thought I could cover more ground here and lastly yes I have asked this in the Saturday IRC party but I wanted to ask on here too so that people who don't join us for the party might be able to chime in. Anyways here goes: So what are Model 5 housings usually made of and for those of you I haven't asked yet... Has anyone seen another model 5 with stainless steel housing or do I pretty much own the only one? (Or one of the very few...?)

I'm pretty sure the one I had was just galvanized sheet metal that was cut, bent, and riveted in place. The more I looked at it, the simpler and less fancy it seemed. I don't know much about any other type of metal though except your stainless one, which I bet weighs a lot more than the standard one.

No need for a multi-sentence disclaimer before your post. And I have seen several (of what appeared to be) stainless steel model 5 housings over the years.

I'm pretty sure Federal offered stainless steel housings for the coastal states; they do well in the salt-water environment. That would explain why your 5's housing is stainless. Sentry offered all of their sirens in stainless steel, and they might still do so.

Yes, Sentry does offer all models in a stainless option currently, as noted on their website.
