Question about STH-10 and Model 5 sirens

Fri Mar 25, 2016 9:13 pm

Are these two models essentially the same siren, other than the obvious visual differences (housing, projector cones, etc.)? I'm assuming the projector cones make the STH-10 louder than the Model 5, but are the tonal qualities of both models the same? I haven't heard either model in person but I can't tell much difference between them when listening to recordings. They seem to have the same pitch and timbre to me. What do you guys think?

They have the same number of ports (Last I checked) but the STH-10 (Again last I checked) has a bigger stator and chopper. (Which is surprising considering how big and heavy the model 5 is...)
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

I have many hobbies and interests. And I love them all.

Another big difference would be the fact that the STH10s had 10/7.5hp motors and the Model 5 had 5/7.5hp motors. The horsepower depended upon the phase. The single phase units had higher horsepower.

STH has a 24 inch chopper, while the model 5 chopper is only 18 inches.
