Beaufort county, SC (Hilton Head island) new mystery sirens

Beautiful Beaufort county is a good mix of history and beach. It’s located in southeastern South Carolina, bordering Georgia. In the southeastern portion of the county is Hilton Head Island, or little Ohio, as at least 50% of Columbus goes there for vacation. Anyways, Beaufort county is installing 12 TORNADO sirens in the county. Coastal tornado sirens seem rare, but with more powerful hurricanes, I can see this being somewhat feasible.

So, here’s the question. What sirens would they go with? According to the Island Packet (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.island ... 02619.html, <— this is the original article), there will be 12 sirens costing 50,000$ total. What could these be? I personally think a MOD/Whelen would be versatile with their voice capability (being able to communicate evacuation orders for NON-tornado events.) I’m not to familiar with the price point of electronic sirens, but I didn’t think they’d go for the low price of 4,166$ (the average cost of each siren). So that leads me to believe they’d be mechanical. Any thoughts or suggestions on what sirens go for that price?

Probably Sentries. That price sounds about right for a 3v8 or 3v8-H.

The new sirens are going to be solar and supposedly have a range of two miles. I'm thinking Whelen, probably Vortexes.

Oh. Hmm.
I guess we’ll just have to do some hunting whenever google updates satellite view, or have someone local to the area do some digging. This could prove to be rather interesting.

The reason I’m asking is because I was down there last week. I can confirm I saw no sirens.

I remember seeing someone post this on Facebook. The only siren being made right now that is solar capable with a two mile range is the T-135. The 3V8-H-B can be ordered as a solar siren, but it will probably be more that $4.2K. Honestly I think there must have been miscommunications somewhere, because if the total costs were $500,000 it would be totally reasonable as T-135's are priced around $42,000. Someone might have been a zero short. lol If they do end up being Tempests I question how well them being solar powered will work out. So far the only solar powered ASC stuff filmed working correctly has been electronic. Solar powered Tempest sirens don't seem to hold up very well.

There is no way 12 sirens are being fully installed for $60k.

Edit: Read the article guys...
The 12 sirens will cost just over $500,000 and will be paid for with a grant from Federal Emergency Management Agency and with money from the state ...
