Well it was bound to happen, the old girl gave up the ghost during a storm a few weeks ago and died, they took it down to have the motor redone and it was but it was just too old.

I contacted the city about taking the old controls FC or AF timer and the flasher wheel and they said they will get back to me.
They are in the middle of getting funds for a new siren (Please let it be a Federal) and they will proceed.
I asked if I could be there for the offical removal and install of the new siren which might take a while to get to and they said they would let me know of the date so wish me luck on that

The way things are going these days I'm guessing the new sirens will be something electronic, maybe and E-Class or ATI.

Chances are they'll just put up a 130 and call it good. Let's hope for a Vortex.

There's no reason the motor on that siren couldn't be rewound unless it was a catastrophic failure. It's been done before on both single and three phase siren models. Sounds like they're about to spend a lot more money than what is remotely necessary for a siren that won't last nearly as long.

I know someone's remanufacturing Xt22's as of the past 5 ish years. When russiaville's square horned sentry on the water tower died, a black cherry red 2T22 on a pole nearby took over. The town probably wants something with batteries.

You could get the 3T22, pull the motor out, repower both heads with their own motors (an XT22 is an STH 10 and an STL 10 sharing a twin shaft/ tail motor) and have an STH-C and an STL-C. Since it's broken it's cheap. I learned that with laptop shopping.

It's missing its bottom row of horns and needs new paint too.

But I'm sure it'll be a worthwhile siren to restore.
