Saudi Arabian Mystery Sirens in 1991

Thu Apr 01, 2021 5:54 am

This will be the last time in posting for a while. Recently I have recently discovered a Video regarding the Missile attack in Saudi Arabia. During the video I have heard very familiar sirens but I will need help to confirm what I’m hearing. In some parts where it gets quiet, I heard what appears to be maybe Analog Whelens but they all were sent many different tones at once. Some started wailing, some were fast wailing. I have also seen that in other topics that there was also whelen WPS-29XXs but they didn’t sound like the ones in the video. Maybe they trusted whelen for years?

The video below was filmed in Riyadh in 1991, and filmed by William Bowen. If this was an obvious answer I still would like to learn more about Saudi Arabia’s sirens. I am also researching as soon as I post this.

Here’s the video.

I've seen on Wikipedia that they use whelens that are imported by HSS engineering, it's a Danish company, and they say on their website that they have more than 40 years of experience, so I assume maybe they installed Whelens back in the 90s.

They sounded analog. Did they have old ESC-864s?

I definitely hear a lot of pneumatic air horns. I heard the Whelens; they definitely sound analog based on the tone and the exponential windup.
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

At somewhere around 9:30, there's definitely something electromechanical that winds up that sounds like a 12 port siren. Does anyone have info on any companies that sent 12 port sirens to Saudi Arabia during or prior to the 90s?

Ok so, the system has used whelens for a good long time and I’m guessing the 2900s were an upgrade to the analogs you hear and (this is a complete guess) and they used to have WPS-2700s

I also found out that they also bought ACA Cyclones. Not many exist today by the looks of things.

Also sorry if the quoting on my own post isn’t allowed

In order:
I think there's one audible around halfway in? I heard something Cyclone-esk somewhere in the video.

It's allowed, I don't think people really frown upon it. At least I don't.

I didn’t hear the cyclone I think but I head it in another video
It's really faint. Go to around 12:15, you might need to turn your volume way up to hear it.
