Massachusetts Siren System

Multiple articles I have seen say that Massachusetts had a statewide civil defense system in the 1950s after World War II. I am currently working on a Massachusetts siren map, and I have found many near Springfield inactive or removed. I have found others in various locations, too. They seem to mostly be Federal Signal Model 5s or 7s. Does anybody know anything about this?
