If you could build your own siren system for your city, what would you use?

Sat May 14, 2022 1:40 pm

Hey guys, if you’re in a city or country or place that either has a poorly designed siren system or a non-existent system, what would you use to build a system for your city? Like what types of sirens and you could basically use any siren that’s been built, from E57s in Los Angeles to thunderbolts in Germany

What would be YOUR ideal siren system for your city?
Cheers and happy noisemaking!

I really like the idea and philosophy of Sentry Siren. Electro-mechanical, omni-directional sirens with ominous tones. Rotating sirens are cool, but you have another maintenance item with the rotator assembly.

Considering the city I live in uses nothing but poorly maintained ATI HPSS-32 sirens, just about anything would be good to replace them. I'd say a system of Sentry 16V1T-Bs would be a much better option, or if we HAD to use an electronic system (and I don't know why we would considering we don't use voice) then Whelen Vortexes would be better. The ATIs are junk.

2001s in highly populated areas and Eclipses in more rural areas and subdivisions. If we were going with Electronics, Whelens. 4004s in Highly Populated areas, and in more rural areas, 2905s.

For my area, probably Equinoxes for the more populated areas and Eclipses for the less populated areas. If it had to be electronic, then probably Mod 6024s instead of the Equinox locations and Mod 1004s or 2008s instead of the Eclipses.

If you want some truly ominous sounding sirens, your best bet is to go 400 Hz or below, so that would include the S TL 10, and the model 120 at 240 Hz, the German three port sirens at 145 Hz, if you can’t find a Siren like that or if you’re wanting to use a Dual tone siren, you could always opt for a cyclone 120/125 as the b-flat major is quite ominous too

Out of sirens available today for the county I live in I would have to go with Federal 508s and Eclipse 8s as gap fillers. If it was ASC I would choose T-135s with T-121s as gap fillers. If it was Whelen it would be Vortex R4s with OA5s as gap fillers. If it was Sentry then it would 16V1T-B with 7V8-Bs as gap fillers. I wouldn't choose ATI for an outdoor warning system although I would consider them for a voice system for an industrial application or for a park.

I would use one of the cellular alert systems and for go the sirens all together. And distribute '911' cell phones to those that did not have a working cell phone.

Of maybe put sirens at schools, parks and public meeting places but no where else.

I would use battery backup sirens, but only from these two brands: American Signal Corporation and Sentry Siren. Preferably, Sentry 14Vs, 16V1T-Bs, 3V8-H-Bs and 7V8-Bs, as well as T-128s, T-121s, T-135 AC/DCs as well as I-Forces and E-Classes.
I know this does not have battery backup but if Scream Master was still in business today, I would like to install those 6/8 port sirens as well. Perhaps if they are still in business today, they would've produced battery backup sirens today.

As a person thar lives near Whelens and 2001s, I highly think that Whelens are excellent sirens for towns. 2001s are rotational, and if the rotator breaks it can cause problems. The Whelen I live by is a 2910, and it is very giant and does an excellent job covering most and a lot of the neighborhood and city.
