Retrofitting a coding mechanism onto a siren

Sat May 28, 2022 7:44 am

Hey guys, I wanted to ask has anybody retrofitted a coding mechanism onto a siren? such as maybe a model 2 or Other sirens, as I’m wanting to try and recreate this style of coding mechanism on my longlegs model 2

I haven't done it to my long leg Model 2 but I was thinking about it. This style coding mechanism is the one I would use on my 2.

if you have a 3d printer, or a machinist, the possibilities are endless! if you arent/ dont have one, i would get a plastic tube that fit snuggly over the housing, than cut the ports out, and grease it (bushing!) than i would find a thin steel tube, cut the ports out, and come up with a way of moving it. you could cut your outer shroud, and have a solenoid stick out( bad) , or make a gear system, like in the pictuer, with 3d printed gears , but instead of having that odd half gear on the bottom, you could use a solenoid to pull on the shaft, instead of a rotary actuator. (for the gears, if you send me a drawing( if youre good with cad) or you send me some dimensions, i will put like 5 of em up on ebay, and start em at $1 no reserve, you pay shipping tho.)

CanadianTBolt1003 Due to the physical size of that mechanism, that wouldn’t physically work on a long legs model too, that’s why probably back when I had long legs they developed the original coding mechanism as in the photo from my first post

CarolinaSignalCo: could you describe to me how that physical mechanism would work? As I can understand the reason why it would have a “double rack pinion gear” The first one is to convert The push pull motion of the solenoid into rotary motion, while the second Rack/pinion gearThe push pull motion of the solenoid into rotary motion, while the second Rack/pinion gear is to convert the high-speed rotary motion into opening and closing the shutter Plus, there’s probably a certain gear ratio to change the small amount of force from the solenoid into a large amount of movement where the shutter ring is, on a related note what’s the diameter of a model 2 stator?

I would consider making a butterfly valve intake for it like a 3T22

That sounds pretty cool, but it would appear it would only work on the shortlegs model, but as mine is a long legs model, that would mean that specific design physically would not work
