RC5WA off a SD-10

Mon May 30, 2022 9:25 pm

Earlier today, the town I live in contacted me as one of their water wells went down and asked if I could help troubleshoot. Long story short well motor was bad. The town electrician asked what I wanted to be paid, and knowing they had a SD-10 on the ground and ive been wanting the control box for it, a deal was made. I was also offered the siren, but I have no use for it, let alone anywhere to store it/power it. Considering my AR timer controlled a SD-10 (not the one my town has), it will fit with my electrical collection. I reglued the FS&S sticker to the starter cover and ill probably find a civil defense sticker for the yellow lid and lll hang it for display on my wall. Heres some photos of my afternoon project.

After I was done fettling with the starter, I rigged it up to my AR, test/alert/attack/cancel worked as it should.

Starter was in good shape. I applied 240 to it and despite the solenoid buzzing loudly, it still worked. I tore the solenoid apart and cleaned the rust of the magnets with sandpaper. Retested and sounded perfect. The comtact fingers were in decent shape for its age.

Squeeze that SD10 into a USPS flat rate box and ship it to Peru NY, I will give it a home 😜

If I end up with long term plans to stay where im at, I would probably snag it and display it. Or mount it on a trailer. I have access to a 240 volt three phase service with a wild leg and can let her scream every now and then 👹

Man, I wish the SD-10 was near me! I'd give it a home.
