Grand Forks, ND EOWS 612 Siren

Mon Jun 06, 2022 3:28 pm

While vacationing in Grand Forks, ND, I managed to find this Federal Signal EOWS 612 siren that is still standing. Grand Forks currently operates a vast system of Federal Signal 2001-130s. From what I can tell, Grand Forks used to have XT22s and Thunderbolts into the late 90s. When the 1997 flood devastated the city, I believe a few of them were either destroyed in the flood, or removed when the neighborhoods around them were razed. I'm guessing this EOWS was installed in or shortly after 1997 to replace one of the sirens inundated by the flood, and I believe the 2001s came a few years later. I'm unsure whether this siren is active or not, as the siren itself doesn't appear to have rotated in some time based on Google Maps. I'm now very curious if there are other old inactive Civil Defense era sirens around the city that are still standing...

I'm really late to the party on this one, but I have some basic information. This is an older 612, built sometime between 1984-85. It's not active unfortunately. It hasn't moved in quite a few years.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
