Mystery solved - and it’s not what we may have assumed - Round Hill, VA

I was looking at old aerial images of Loudoun County, VA, where I grew up. The Round Hill VFD’s siren is enclosed in a cupola, so none of us knew for sure what it was. However, most of us assumed it would be a Model 5/7, since that may seem to fit in there best. And Dave Fritz even talked with a longtime member who said he recalled it looking like a “July 4th rocket” before it was put inside the cupola. So that only made it more plausible that it was a Model 5. But while looking at these images, turns out it’s not a 5 at all, but an STH-10! I guess there are more surprising things it could have been…

Excellent find! It's crazy how much history has been unveiled by Vintage Ariel. I'll get this up into the map.

EDIT : Round Hill also had an Allertor installed by Civilian Defense in the mid-70s right?

You’re so right! It really is how much crazy. I also stumbled across a pic of the former Allertor at the Middleburg VFD (my hometown), which was removed in 2011.

And yes, you are correct that RH did have an Allertor as well. I think it’s long, long gone. Possibly even before my time.
