Mystery British siren in Peterborough

Sun Dec 25, 2022 12:00 pm

Hello,

I shared this picture of a mystery siren a while ago on another forum, however it was never confirmed to be a specific make/model.
It has been suggested that it could be a 2 HP Castle Castings siren or potentially an early Secomak GP6, however a conclusion was never reached.
This siren is located on the East of England Showgrounds in Peterborough on one of the office buildings, I believe.
It can be seen on Google Maps here --> https://www.google.com/maps/@52.544657, ... 192!8i4096

A British siren enthusiast. Previously lived at the furthest point from any sirens before co-discovering one very close to where he is located. Also features a great discomfort referring to themselves in third-person.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is an earlier Secomak single head. The rectangular mount rules it out being a Castle, because their mounts are smoother and curved, while this one is rectangular. The stator openings also look like that of a Secomak stator.

Yeah, that’s what I was originally thinking. Are there any other early Secomaks in existence that we can compare it to?

This CS6 is a good example. The mount looks slightly different, but the chopper assembly and motor match.

Nice, thanks for the information!
There is a chance that I may be acquiring this siren at some point in the future, so if I do end up getting it I will give it a thorough inspection to confirm it’s model.
Thanks again!

That's great! You'll probably need a VFD for it. Most of those are three phase.
Side note, that looks like it was painted over recently and that probably means the tag was also painted over. Hopefully, if you do get your hands on it, the tag will be in some readable condition.

That appears to me to possibly be a Siren-Co model of some sort?
Possibly the 10S model.
