Possible Edwards/Whelen thing in Tremont PA

Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:58 pm

I found this via a Reddit post. The author says it’s a 1008, however doing a bit more digging, the cabinet appears to be some sort of fiberglass one, and looks nothing like a Whelen cabinet. I hate to be that person, but it resembles those odd Edwards Audalert things from Red Bank, NJ.

Tremont, Pa has a Whelen WS-1000 that sits up on a hill that sounded for fire calls with thier Federal 5T. Mike Stalnecker (who remembers him??) submited a recording of the 2 Tremont sirens sounding to the first siren contest. It is an interesting affair, it has a Federal AF/AR (I can't keep them straight in my head) that trips the Whelen components. I have pictures of it somewhere, but God if I know where they are.

According to the ARS wiki, and the Whelen documentation on this page:

The WS-1000s cabinet was fiberglass, interestingly enough. The box below the main cabinet would house batteries, and it appears that the main WS-1000 cabinet does not have room for batteries so that adds up. You would be correct in assuming it doesn't look like a normal Whelen cabinet, as this is very much so an unusual rarity of a siren, but it is very much so a Whelen. Cool discovery for sure!
