The Many, Many Designs of the Model 1

Fri Mar 10, 2023 4:38 am

Like many other Fedelcode sirens at the time, there were several different designs just for the Model 1. So far, we know it came with up to five different housing designs, those being:

A 2-louvre design:

A 3-louvre design:

A 4-louvre design:

A variation of the 3-louvre design:

And a possible 1-louvre design (could just be a modified/damaged model):

Hello, fellow siren enthusiasts. I am losing interest, but will be back on the board from time to time.

I never knew that a Model 1 existed up until this point, let alone that there are variations in the design. That's a +1 karma from me.
Siren geek from South Texas. Although I've loved sirens for years, I've only recently begun digging into the rich history of civil defense. I also proudly own at least thirty weather band radios.

The story gets a bit more interesting regarding the Mach. 1…

Based off this advertisement from 1929, there was yet another Model No. 1. This was a “general alarm siren” that shared the same 10 1/2” rotor as the Mach. 3 (pictured right alongside). It is unknown if these were truly 1 horsepower, but given the others (Machs. 3 and 5) match the motor power, it could be assumed this followed suit. This siren however could not be fitted with any coding equipment.

I've also seen what appears to be a Model 2 refered to as the "No. 1" seen in the image below.
It's a shame not much is known about most Fedelcode sirens...
