Weird Siren I saw on google.

Mon Apr 17, 2023 5:19 pm

I was looking through google images for a radio shack 120v alarm when I saw a gem. It was a link to Alibaba for an electronic* siren with the amazing caption "Alarm Siren 140db 120v Siren-Buy Alarm Siren Motorcycle Siren 125db Siren 120v Alarm Siren Produ..." it just ends there. It is quite strange that the siren advertises 2 different decibel ratings but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

*I don't know, see for yourself.

EDIT: HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS TINY BOX IS LOUDER THAN THE CHRYSLER

Not all decibel ratings are taken from the same distance...
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

It’s also likely they just lied about their decibel ratings. I’d be surprised if you can hear this thing from 100ft away.

The sound measurements may have been taken very close to the unit, probably only a few feet instead of 100 like most sirens. This looks to be fire/security related.

I've seen this type of siren/ light combo used in a work place type setting. With what I saw and heard, there was two different tones....one for tornado warnings and the other was a fire alarm. I think the placement for these units was every 200' (aprox.) (walls, hallways, etc.)
There is absolutely no way that these could out perform a Chrysler, even if the Chrysler wasn't firing on all 8.....or 6 ;)

It would be funny if the rating was really 125db at 1 inch but I seriously doubt the 140db claim.
