Sick Sirens Outside of USA

Thu Apr 27, 2023 12:05 pm

Hey guys, I was wondering if there’s any videos of any sick sirens outside of USA because I can’t really find any videos from, say Germany. Could you help me out?

If you mean broken sirens, there are quite a lot here in the UK. Not many of them ever sound, though.
A British siren enthusiast. Previously lived at the furthest point from any sirens before co-discovering one very close to where he is located. Also features a great discomfort referring to themselves in third-person.

While this Elektror L1 isn't exactly "sick", as in there aren't any issues with the motor, this siren has a worse issue. The stator is falling apart! Three of the stator ports were destroyed by something impacting it, as the rainshield's also pretty damaged. The siren still functions despite missing nearly half of the stator, although it is apparently very quiet because of it.

Right you are, and for some inexplicable reason, the majority of those that don't work properly over here that are tested happen to be Secomak GP12s. Secomak CS8s are also dodgy, but on average are less so now given that Broadmoor's network is decommissioned.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlR-pfrcd3s - this is the CS8 at Carstairs Junction. It has two broken solenoids, so is currently acting as a GP6. It's not even the worst in the nine-siren Carstairs network...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8k6SvBtK7Y&t=75s - this is the GP12 at Ravenstruther, which is famously even more battered. Motor's star-delta (wind-up phasing) converter doesn't work, the rotors suffer heavily from friction with the stators, and it looks a mess too!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY-_xe9SmHQ&t=20s - this is the GP12 in Laneham, which is a complete mess (the entire Rampton system is, to be fair). Doesn't have enough power to it, is very loud running up, only runs five "escape" sequences rather than the six it should, etc... East Drayton, one of the other two sins in the network, is very inconsistent in phase conversion but runs well when it does switch, though it suffers from the same radio sync issue as Laneham so ends up very out-of-sync by the end of the "escape" tone. Meanwhile, the GP12 at Woodbeck (the hospital itself) runs perfectly!

These are the ones that I have come across myself - and I have heard them all in person - but I am sure there must be others out there.

No, the Klaxon SS6 is not a Sentry 95...

I got a weird one for y'all, a electronic siren in France that decided to go completely bananas... Took some digging to find the video, but here it is.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cjkd_6el2g

Said siren unfortunately is gone and has been replaced... The old siren was a Schaltbau or Wandel & Goltermann KSE 1200 something like that. It's been replaced by a AE&T-rebadged Hormann speaker array.

Just in case I'm going to try and download the video in case it gets pulled down! (it got unlisted at some point..)

Edit: I also heard one myself, near Nogent-sur-Oise/Creil (around the "bassin Creillois" or as it's officially known, ACSO - Agglomeration Creil Sud Oise) at work, it sounded like it was struggling to keep spinning up at its maximum RPM then after a few seconds it spiked up to full speed (delayed star-delta switchover?), but doing so it sounded like it was really struggling.

I didn't see the siren directly unfortunately, but since it went off the first Wednesday of the month (as the tradition goes in France) at noon, I could perhaps try and make a run for recording it on my lunch break.

I did try and record it the first time I heard it but it turns out it was too far away for my phone's microphone to pick it up.
