This Model 2 in Minneapolis takes the cake, IMO. It's mounted on the side of the building, which is something you certainly don't see every day.

Re: Grafton Mass. FD

Grafton has three 1003s: one on the north end, one on the south end and one in the center of town. Sounds like the one at Fire Station #2 has a stuck solenoid, in addition to the other issues you mentioned. Whatever the case, I hope they fix it soon, since there really aren't a whole lot of active B...

Here is a decently low Darley Champion!

Looking at the mount, I don't see any controls or wiring attached to it. It's likely just a display siren.

Re: Miscellaneous Siren Photos Thread

East Brookfield, MA's 3T22 (I believe) and Sterling M-series siren in August of 2008, around the same time as the Thunderbolt 1003 I posted in this thread. Both sirens in the photo have since been removed.

Re: Miscellaneous Siren Photos Thread

I recently took this long-range shot of one of the Port of Providence's Whelens. This siren is tested annually, and is used for emergencies within the Port. It was also recently used as a tornado siren when severe weather hit Providence. Four tornadoes were reported: three in MA and one in RI 202308...

Re: Miscellaneous Siren Photos Thread

North Brookfield, MA's old Thunderbolt 1003, photographed in August of 2008. The siren was eventually removed in very poor condition. I'm not sure if the fire department either switched to using pagers, or the siren stopped working beyond repair.

Re: Miscellaneous Siren Photos Thread

Here is an ancient coded Sterling Model M in Seekonk, MA. I highly doubt it's active. 30865681378_7c75ba9471_o.jpg I see a horn looking thing beside the sterling. What is that? That would be a diaphone. These are most often used at fire stations to alert firefighters to fire calls, along with noon ...

Just as a reminder, "Y-10s" don't exist. Those are Sterling Model M Code Sirens.
I guess I need to brush up on my Sterlings. Thanks for the correction.

Re: Vintage siren photos thread

The Neil House Hotel in Columbus, OH in the 1970s. Look closely and you can see a Thunderbolt. Hotel was torn down in the 1980s to make way for the Huntington Bank Building. A newspaper article posted a few pages back shows the Bolt sporting stripes, so it must have been repainted at some point afte...
