Re: High mounted sirens in the US

There's an old, inactive Federal Signal omnidirectional on the roof of the Rensselaer County office building in Troy, NY. Don't know the model, but I'll try to get a better picture next week. While a good 80+ feet above downtown, the next through street behind the building is actually above the heig...

Re: How many counties still use thunderbolts?

Not a county, per se, but the Melrose, NY fire department has a Thunderbolt (don't know if a 1000 or 1000T because I've never heard it go off).

Re: Buffalo, NY Area Sirens

Now that someone revived this thread... From what I can tell, Erie County used STL-10s with the occasional STH-10 thrown in. This one near the Buffalo Zoo was still up as of last week. I found one near I-190 Exit 4 in the summer of 2015 when I was doing traffic counts for the state at a nearby inter...

Re: Roster of Sirens in New York City (& Nearby Areas)

The two times I have been to New York City I remember seeing a few Modulators that belonged to some industrial plant on the drive in... They might be on the New Jersey side though, I'm not sure. They are on the Jersey side. No industrial plant I know of in New York has sirens. Other than fire siren...

Re: Roster of Sirens in New York City (& Nearby Areas)

Westchester's Indian Point sirens (all ATIs) are on the county GIS system. Go to "show additional data on map" and check "Indian Point sirens". Link: http://giswww.westchestergov.com/gismap/default.aspx?ovmap=ipzone I doubt there are any 2001s in the area. Almost everything in Ne...

Re: 4004 or Vortex?

Living in Midland County, I have always thought they were Vortex's although, voice messaging could determine the model. But considering MP may have the sirens due to Central Michigan University and the Indian Reservation, I think voice capability does exist although I have never head of it being us...

They aren't necessarily for hurricanes. The Miami-Dade sirens are, as far as I can tell, only for Turkey Point.

Re: South Florida (Miami / Fort Lauderdale / West Palm Beach) sirens?

Does anybody know who is in charge of that map? There are a couple other Turkey Point locations I found following a completely different hobby. Possibly the oddest one is at the Card Sound toll booths. Nothing around except one restaurant and the tolls.
