Re: Vintage siren photos thread

I'm surprised this hasn't been shared yet, but this link has some old photos of Grand Rapids' Chrysler sirens: https://grandrapidscivildefensehistory. ... aid-sirens

Re: The most ridiculous siren installation ever

That's not a restroom, actually. It is a ventilation shaft for the garage, as there is no access to that building - the concrete enclosure goes all the way around. It warns the state's capital buildings and the parking garage below very well, for the setting it's in. Maybe it'd be a good way to cle...

Re: The most ridiculous siren installation ever

This STH-10 in Lansing, MI.

Mounted right on top of a public restroom, and nothing to warn when it's about to go off.

Re: Setting off your county's sirens

Welp, I can now confirm that Kent County, MI emergency services do not allow tours or siren activations from the public, due to personal info on their monitors. Might try Ottawa County next.

Re: Setting off your county's sirens

...I think where the O.P is coming from is setting off the sirens from the control panel, computer or what ever his county/city uses, under the supervision of who ever is in charge of doing so, present. Ah yes, sorry I should have clarified but I do mean activating the actual scheduled test, with e...

Setting off your county's sirens

So I've seen multiple videos on youtube of people setting off their county's siren tests, which makes me curious about a couple things. Have any of you gotten to do this? What was it like? Finally, if I wanted to do this in my county, what would be the best way to go about this? I've already been in...

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY The thunderbolt on 40th and Brooks HAS BEEN REMOVED only controls remain as of July 5, 2019
How unfortunate, that one actually worked fine too. Maybe someone at West Shore knows the fate of the remaining bolt.

Re: Holland, Michigan - Tornado siren history!

the one standing on Central Ave. & 30th which has recently failed a couple of times. We are not sure if Ottawa county will fix it. That siren's dead, and has effectively been replaced by the 2001 on 35th and College. No idea if there are any plans to remove it but I doubt they're going to fix it.

unless i'm really mistaken, and i prove to be sometimes, the grand rapids MI thunderbolt mounted atop the police department has the blower in the building somewhere.
If you mean the one about a block down from it, the blower is definitely also on the roof.

Re: Michigan Siren Location Maps- A work in Progress

May I suggest an edit? Made a visit to GVSU today and it looks like the 2001 on campus was replaced by a few Modulators (I found two 4016s and a 2008 but there may be more, didn't check the entire campus.) I've added their locations to my personal map: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Kn364GGe1GxrD...
