Re: ACA Allertor 125 in Richfield, Minnesota

I remember the blue Allertor back in the 80s. It was right next to some tennis courts we used to play on. Sadly, it was replaced by a 2001 last year. So was the yellow Allertor at Nicollet Park. How sad!!

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

I grew up in St. Louis Park, sandwiched between an Allertor (right behind Jerry's Market on Vernon in Edina) and a Thunderbolt 1000 (right across Excelsior Blvd from Miracle Mile, next to a water tower that has since been torn down). The Thunderbolt was replaced by a Thunderbeam in the late 80s, the...

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

There was also a black Allertor on top of a fire station in Bloomington (Bush Lake Rd & 106th Street). I drove by it many times but didn't even realize it was there until it went off during a tornado warning. It was pretty low mounted and loud. If you google map this location and view it from st...

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

Dispatcherman, I don't have any of the old tapes. I have never heard the Soundmaster 125. I drove by the one on Hwy 55 regularly and know it was still in use because it was facing a different direction after each 1st Wednesday of month test. One of the square-horned Hurricanes I used to drive by was...

Re: What is your favorite port combination on a siren?

My favorites are the 4/5 Thunderbolt and 9/12 Allertor. I like the 8/12, but from a distance the 9/12 Allertor has a more urgent sound.

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

I used to tape record sirens in the early 80s, when Thunderbolts and Allertors were abundant. I wish I would have taken more pictures back then. I used to drive by two different square-horned Hurricanes in Minnetonka and two different Soundmaster 125s in Plymouth. I had no way of knowing that all th...

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

I forgot to add that the Allertor in northeast Minneapolis was older, with the shorter intake horn. But I never heard it go off. I know the Allertor on top of Floyd Olson Middle School was an 8/12. I was wondering if the NE Mpls Allertor was the same. If anyone knows.

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

I know there is a picture on the JMarcoz Siren Achive site of the Allertor mounted atop the 2112 Broadway building in Northeast Minneapolis. But does anyone know of any other pictures of this one? I used to drive by it all the time. It was removed in about 2006. No one ever mentions this siren. It w...

Re: ACA Allertor 125 Questions

Well, I am about ready to both cry and have a heart attack right now (not literally of course, but my heart is racing understandably). Friend of mine passed through Knox Township and saw this today. What really makes me angry is we emailed the township trustee to let him know we were interested bot...

Re: Minneapolis, MN old siren system

It may have been on the border of Minneapolis. Back in the 80s, Minneapolis had Thunderbolts and 2 Allertors. In the late 90s, 2001's began to spring up here and there. Since 2013, Whelens have multiplied like cancerous cells, replacing all but one Thunderbolt (located on U of M's west bank campus)....
